Abstract:The admission of foreign investment to domestic market of multimodal transport service closely relates to that of maritime transport service, but appears even more complicated due to the fact that the admission of foreign investment to domestic market of multimodal transport service probably means that the entire domestic transport service market will be open to foreign investment. Based on the research on the categorization problems within the current GATS framework, this paper makes a detailed study on the legal issues primarily originating from the“multi-track”problems concerning the admission of foreign investment to China’s domestic market of multimodal transport service and the qualification of the wholly-owned foreign capital companies. When it comes to the China (Shanghai) Free Trade Zone, the policy makers are advised to take into consideration the impact of the preferential rules to be made applicable to the shipping industry on the multimodal transport service.
