Abstract:This paper divides the space into domestic market and foreign market and divides the time into pre-crisis and the financial crisis period. It explores the evolutionary paths of export enterprises’ upgrading strategy in those two markets through case analysis and empirical research. The results show that: firstly, the upgrading strategies of China’s export enterprises are different in domestic and foreign markets. Secondly, the upgrades of export enterprises show diversified markets evolutionary paths which can be grouped into four types: market stability, market transformation, market expansion and market shrinkage. Thirdly, the market evolutionary path of an enterprise does affect its business performance. Under the influence of the financial crisis, the best choice for export enterprises is to follow the market shrinkage path, but it’s not significantly different from other evolutionary paths.
