Abstract:Value added database allows us to quantitatively analyze the value added by a country in the production of any goods and services that is then exported, and offers us a better picture of commercial relations between nations. At the same time, the technology of complex network makes it possible to study international trade from a global perspective. In this paper, we take the country (including region) as a node, the trade relation between two countries as an edge, and build the value-added trade network based on data available from OECD statistical website. By visualizing the map of world value-added trade network (WVAN) and measuring some network indicators, we find that the WVAN also has a relatively high level of clustering, small-world character, negative assortativeness and other characteristics found in international trade network (ITN) before. Then we focus on the status of a country in WVAN by measuring it with some indicators. Finally, we discuss the issue of trade deficit between China and the United States.
