The free trade zone has increasingly become a tool for promoting global economic growth. The World Free Zones Organization has launched the Future Free Zones initiative and provided the Izdihar Index tool to measure, assess and improve the performance of individual free zones. The Izdihar index framework consists of one basic pillar (business excellence and economic contribution), three core pillars (first-class performance, innovative capabilities, sustainable development) and a measurement tool (maturity curve). It is helpful to introduce Izdihar index guiding the construction process of China’s free trade zones. By evaluating all of the elements under the construction of free trade zones, we will find the shortcomings, and find a perfect plan to improve the elements. On the path to prosperity, the free trade zones in China will develop into mature first-class free trade zones.
