The regional trade policy uncertainty is an important factor affecting the zombie of Chinese export enterprises. Taking the China-ASEAN Free Trade Area as the research entry point, using enterprise level data and difference in difference method, this paper comprehensively explores the effect of significantly reducing the regional trade policy uncertainty on the zombie of Chinese export enterprises. The results show that the implementation of the Framework Agreement has led to a sharp decline in the regional trade policy uncertainty, which has significantly inhibited the zombie of China’s export enterprises to ASEAN. At the same time, it is also found that the inhibition effect also shows obvious heterogeneity due to the differences in ownership, location, and factor intensity of export enterprises. In addition, the results of the mechanism test also show that the regional trade policy uncertainty has decreased significantly, mainly relying on learning effect, competition effect and improving the trade environment of imported intermediate goods to curb the zombie of export enterprises, among which the role of improving the trade environment of imported intermediate goods is the most obvious, accounting for 23.41% of the total effect. The empirical results provide new ideas for suppressing the zombie of Chinese export enterprises from the perspective of reducing regional trade policy uncertainty.
