Abstract:Based on the database of industrial enterprises in China and the import and export database of China Customs from 2000 to 2015, this paper constructs the comprehensive depth index of environmental rules of regional trade agreements at the enterprise level, and studies the influence of environmental rules of regional trade agreements on the scope of export products of enterprises. The results show that the environmental rules of regional trade agreements have pushed enterprises to narrow the scope of export products, and this conclusion still holds after a series of endogenous tests and robustness tests. The results of mechanism test show that the environmental rules of regional trade agreements promote enterprises to narrow the scope of export products by increasing the production and operation costs and promoting the technological progress of enterprises. Heterogeneity analysis shows that the environmental rules of regional trade agreements play a stronger role in promoting enterprises with strong operating ability and high financing constraints to narrow the scope of export products. Further analysis shows that the environmental rules of regional trade agreements are conducive to improving the quality of enterprises' export products and the embedding degree of enterprises’global value chain; Government effectiveness strengthens the influence of environmental rules of regional trade agreements on the scope of export products of enterprises. The conclusion of this paper is of great significance for promoting the green transformation of China’s export enterprises, achieving high-quality development of foreign trade in China and achieving the goal of carbon neutrality in peak carbon dioxide emissions.
